I have been playing tennis four about 4-5 years now, and in high School, I was a frequent attendee of UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) verified tennis tournaments. UTR allows tennis players of all ages and skill levels to receive of ranking between 1-16, with 1 being beginner level and 16 being professional level. It is incredibly important for juniors, as it is what college coaches look for and helps them get seeded in district/regional/state competitions.
While I was home from college for the summer, I wanted to attend one or two UTR events in my area for fun and to see where I stood. To my surprise, most of the UTR events I used to frequently attend no longer existed! So, I thought to myself, "well, I could do that..." and Spur Tennis Club was born.
In my hometown of Gatesville, Texas, I am now a UTR provider for Spur Tennis Club UTR verified events. Along with the help of my parents, we put on monthly tournaments to players of all ages and levels to our community, and even for those outside of our area.
The first ever Spur Tennis Club event, the Labor Day Weekend Roundup, garnered 47 total players, something I could not be happier about.
Through running this tournament business, I have greatly developed my skills of project management, time management, financial planning, social media marketing, web development, and social skills.
Balancing the work of Spur Tennis Club with college is a challenge, but I love being able to provide the same opportunities to play tennis to my community that I used to have growing up, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
I could not do it without my amazing parents, Sam and Se'Vette Early, who have helped me every step of the way to make it all possible.
